my LI fe, M y IT Life

My crazy life and how it relates to IT.

Whats Going on? Life and tech....What else rant.

Wow its been a crazy few months in the life of the "Bordners".....

My wife and I just had our baby, on national pi day (3/14) and he's absolutely beautiful. He's been in the NICU for a little bit so I've been at the hospital since the 14th until today. I sit here waiting and praying for my son to get better, until then, I have been obsessively been keeping up with all that great tech news.  I am proud to actually own a Lumia device, and being in school in all for one quarter, I've converted 3 people into getting a Lumia phone, and they have nothing but amazing things to say about it. One of my quests in my life are to evangelize and convert people to Windows Phone, and Windows 8 tablets.

I recently applied to be a "Microsoft Student Partner" haven't heard much from them, but who says you cant stop following your dreams right? I also do go to a puny Community college in Spokane, that barely makes a mark, so I can see why Microsoft wouldn't pick me. You just cant give up I guess. I continually keep the Windows Phone subreddit updated, and what not and I also keep my Windows Phone community page updated on Facebook. My passion is to "show the world my knowledge of Microsoft technology" I still cant wrap my head around why I am so obsessed.... I've always had this mindset of having the best, and being the best, and that's where my Microsoft obsessiveness kicks in I guess. Im not a geek, its weird. I care daily how I look, and I love society, maybe a cool geek? (don't want to sound to arrogant I guess??) Maybe Microsoft should just hire me already! I live, I breathe, I cry Microsoft and its amazing products. Hmm, on a side note, things that have been going through my mind lately.... Lets start of with the Blackberry z10.. What do you guys think? Do you think it'll take the global 3rd spot? Don't think I'm some Microsoft fan boy now, but I really do think Blackberry is late to the game. They just announced they officially have 70,000 apps.....Those 70 thousand are mostly ported apps from android (that run sluggish, so I hear) I just don't think there is any room for blackberry anymore, and for them to sell their security and enterprise services.

I do appraise the keyboard, but that's about it. Nokia, and its Lumia phones is where the future is at. Nokia wants the 3rd spot more than Blackberry with there amazing support for their customers and phones. I am currently sporting a white Lumia 920, and for how advanced it is, and with a few firmware updates, it'll be able to out do the blackberry in its apparent revolutionary features. Thornton Hein's, the blackberry, CEO says the Windows Phone doesn't have the capabilities to be a Mobile computing device, ironically enough Windows Mobile came out before the Blackberry, so im thinking Windows Phone 8 has the guts to be a mobile computing device. I think its funny that dying companies talk crap when their company is crap. Brings back the old Xbox is better than PlayStation debates. All in all, itll be a very interesting year for Nokia and Microsoft.

One Month With the Lumia 920.

Wow, its been a crazy Month for me, Christmas was amazing. As I mentioned in my earlier posts I picked up the Lumia 920, the flagship device from thom the Finnish Maker, Nokia. The whole month of December I got to show off this amazing work of art. People would ask me what kind of phone it was all of the time. For the Month of use, I can only complain about 2 things that can easily be fixed with either the patience of tme, and or firmwar updates (Which Nokia is amazing in doing). The 2 things that I an really complain about is first off the lack of apps. I cant stress this enough. Month by month has been quite the suprise for me, I suddenly see an amazing app thats available for the phone. Apps, unfortunatley can decide the fate of the OS, and thats why I stress the fact Microsoft needs to get going on getting good apps ported over for the Windows Phone. Secondly, this is really an annoyance than a complain, and like I said, Nokia could easily put out an update for this,a nd its the Battery life for this beast. I can see why it only lasts 8 hours, (PUREVIEW TECHNOLOGY, PURE MOTION, THE BEAUTIFUL SCREEN, CARL ZIESS LENS) But seriously the annoyance is it only lasting 8 hours maybe. Just tired of coming home to "Charge the Ol' Lumia Up". All in all, it is a GREAT device, and I highly reccomend it for anyone looking to buy a new smartphone. Dont be brainwashed by these android phones that come out with NFC technology and Wireless charging, just know that the Lumia 920, is better and had these technologies first, not some android device like the soon to be "HTC DNA".  You know Windows Phone 8 is good, when Steve Ballmer says windows phones have sold 500% better then last years Windows Phones, and news headlines read today say that Nokia sold 4.4 Million Lumias in the Last Quarter! Windows Phone, is the future of smartphones. Companies like Linux are aswell bringing their own mobile OS to phones this year, and RIM's Blackberry 10 aswell as a startup called Stalfish Ui. There is no threat whatsoever. Windows Phone will either have the crown for the 2nd or 3rd spot in the market by this year.

4 Days with the Lumia 920.

Well, Guys I made the move to the Lumia 920, matte black. There was only one Lumia left in the small city of Spokane. I was shooting towards the white glossy one, but like I mentioned, there was only one left!!! Spokane consists of over 600,000 people, so The Lumia being almost sold out in Spokane is kinda, a big deal since this is the biggest city on this side of the state. I ordered the Lumia 920 glossy white for my wife, and should be shipped within the next few days. She fell in love with the phone itself, but she is a little disappointed because there isnt an official Pinterest, and instagram app yet. Thats the unfortunate thing about the Windows Phone OS right now is the support for legacy apps. Nokia and Microsoft are working daily to bring these apps to the phone. They have most of the must have apps on the platform now, and are working closely with Facebook to bring the Instagram app to the OS. The story is......Facebook came, Microsoft bought 3% of their shares, Facebook bought Instagram, Now we wait for a Microsoft to build an Instagram app, since Facebook gave them the OK to build an official Facebook app for the Windows Phone OS. I am hopeful for the OS, Ive committed myself since the Zune HD, the first device to really test the "METRO" interface, but technically, the KIN was the first but we will keep that quiet *jokes* and I will continue to evangelize. Now, back to the experience with the Lumia. Like I mentioned before, I couldn't wait. My wife is the primary, and she wanted to wait till xmas. The thing was, for me since I wanted it sooooooo bad, and I showed the puppy dog face, and an ATT 3rd party store was selling the Lumia for $50.00. We then ordered 2, for the 50 dollar price tag. I have been using it for the last 4 days, and I have been blown away by the beauty of the device. This, is what Windows Phone should have been right from the get go. I could sit for hours just toying around with all of the features. Again I cant stress the fact of how there needs to be legacy apps for people to switch from IOS or Android. We literally just got Words w/ friends, and Draw something, 2 apps that no one cares about anymore. Im scared, if it takes them months to bring these apps over, I'm scared people people wont want to make the switch. In a quick conclusion, The Lumia 920, is a beautiful device, and Nokia will support it like crazy. The phone is even faster with a dual core, snapdragon CPU, the screen has the pure motion technology, meaning its the fastest screen ever put on a smart phone, and the camera, is the BEST, mark my words camera ever put on a smartphone. my score 9.8/10!

To Be Honest...This is Why I wanna go into IT.

Ever since I was young, I've always wondered what was just inside of the many toys I ever received when I was a child. I felt bad most of the time cause obviously I didn't have a job, so all my cool techie toys were given to me as gifts from my parents or other family for Christmas, and birthdays. I guess over the period of time, I was kind of a hoarder when it came to old hand-held games and old palm pilots. When I took things apart, I always learned the hard way because I didn't have internet where I lived or better yet, my Dad only had dial-up at the time. So, I took things a part without really knowing what I was actually doing, most of the time I would ruin the device I had, and I would just have parts cluttering my shelves. I soon realized that these "parts" were useful down the road, when something came up, I would have the resources to fix the problems. I've kind of been nerdy all of my life, started with a massive video game collection; I continued to show my love for "High Tech" things. I had a big family, so my goal was to have the best things to show off to my brothers and make them jealous. I was the first one with a Laptop, IPod, PlayStation Portable, and a Zune. These are the kind of accomplishments I am proud of and I have always had the drive to be on the top, with the best things possible.

I have always been a Microsoft fan boy ever since I purchased the Zune, I fell in love with the originality of their products and it wasn't what everyone else had. I look at the quality of the products, and I don't buy stuff just because it’s popular and every single high school girl owns it. Little stories like the ones I have listed have allowed me to relate and have my mind set on the career field of IT. Being the nice guy all of my life, has brought me to new levels, and satisfaction. I am not satisfied until I know I have helped someone throughout the day. Look at our local IT food drive, I organized it, and took the lead because someone was crying for help. I ALWAYS find myself helping people at BestBuy and Wal-Mart because I am there, and technology is my passion, not just a paycheck and the employees don’t really know what they are talking about, we all can relate to similar experiences.  I will use this leadership to stand out among the rest of the crown to propel myself in a great career.

I love the fast, ever changing technology, and I am excited to see what has yet to be discovered, all in the hopes of a future job with Microsoft. I either want to be on the Xbox entertainment team, being part in the support groups that are associated, or better yet I want to be part of the Windows Phone team, as a Technology Evangelist. With the Tech Evangelist position, I would be traveling the US, or even the world to show the everyday consumer that the mobile platform is better than the competitors. I’d be going to events to teach people how to use the platforms, and even going to store to store to teach the retail employees about the platform so they can sell it and troubleshoot it for their customers. I know I have a while before I can reach my dream, but the dream is so clear from where I am standing, and I will continue to fight through these obstacles of math to get to the top of the world.

Im Big Into the Windows Phone 8

Att just announced today that the Lumia920 will sell for 99.99 on contract! If you guys are interested in the Lumia 820 its only 49.99 on ATT aswell. All I can say is that Nokia should do well in this wave of Smart phones especially since the Nokia lumia 920 has futuristic features, and 32 gbs of space! Thats a killer deal! I will then sell my first gen Samsung focus (windows phone 7.5) for around 60.00 bucks on ebay to purchase the Lumia 920. If you guys have any questions about the platform if in fact you want to switch from an Iphone, or Crapdroid, let me know, Ill be sure to answer any questions you might have. please leave comments!

UUUUUUGH......Just went to Best Buy's website and checked my upgrade status, and it isn't till December 29! Now I have to have my focus for another, almost 2 months, unless it breaks for some odd randomly ;) Ive looked at HTC's 8x, and yes its a beautiful phone, but they want like 200 bucks with a contract for it. There is no way Nokia will be beat on price when the Lumia 920 is priced below the Iphone 5, and GSIII. Thank God for upgrades! My wife has an HTC Inspire, and its a beautiful device, but its running Android. Her phone really does have a mind of its own, like vibrating after shes answered the phone, horrible battery life, apps crashing constantly. I do give Google a liitle props for Jellybean, but most phones don't even have jellybean yet, that's one of the main reasons I switched to Windows Phone from Android was its lack of official updates.  I agree with Steve Ballmer on this one, This is the year for Windows!

Walmart just announced the Lumia920 will be 49.99 on contract, and the HTC 8x will be 39.99 on contract. If you guys were in fact interested in the Lumia 820, it will be free at walmart on contract. This has been the best deal I have personally found, and news just announced today that the Lumia920 is selling susurprisingly well, with retailers stock of Lumias have been out of stock, or the shipping of the device goes from 2 weeks to 3. Nokia wasn't prepared for these surprising results. You guys, I went into the ATT store and layed the Lumia 920 (dummy device) in my nervous sweaty hand, and I fell in love. When December 1st hits, ill be running into the store and getting my lumia! (Obviously I am excited) Now that the black Friday craziness is over, Ive notice Amazon has the Lumia 920 for 0.01 but only available in matte black. But they still have the other colors available, go figure they are sold out. I do want to add, 8 out of 10 smart phones are Windows Phones, on Amazons top ten.

My Perspective of what cloud computing is.

Lets Look at the Cloud. (don't be blinded by the sun)

What is the cloud you ask? Millions of people wonder the same thing. To this day, I still am confused on how all of this is structured and put together and how it works so seamlessly on all devices, whether your prefer Android, Windows, or IOS. To me, the cloud is pretty much a hard drive that is stored somewhere else that lets you take advantage of it by saving pictures, music, and documents, all over a broadband connection. Now don't be confused when I say you need a valid internet connection. You need a connection because like I mentioned before, this “Hard drive” is literally stored somewhere else, that we would never know. Just like websites, email clients, they are all managed through the companies servers. These companies need an internet connection to allow them to broadcast these services. Thats exactly what the cloud is, is a service, managed by a company, that allows you to store personal data, without using space on your computer. For example, anything you save on the Google drive, is saved on a google server, and anything you save in Microsoft’s Skydrive is saved on a Microsoft server, all allowing you to access these documents with a valid account either through Microsoft or Google, and having a valid internet connection. Now the advantages of these cloud services weigh as much as the disadvantages, some related to the brand and some relating to the security of the cloud. I want to start out with some of the disadvantages. The number one disadvantage of storing info on the cloud, and you can ask anybody, is the lack of having a constant internet connection. I could be writing a paper ( like now) and/or the connection of my internet connection could disappear. Lets just say someone goes out and buys Google’s new addition, The Chromebook (a cloud based laptop from Google) and you have a very important paper due? Well once upon a time, the internet connection was lost, and you as a student made the worst decision of your life by depending on the cloud service for everything. Your life as a student just died a little, as that Chromebook is all cloud, and no hard drive whatsoever, it needs a CONSTANT connection to the internet to sync documents. This huge disadvantage affects Businesses, Schools and even at home use.

The other disadvantage I mentioned earlier was the brand of the Cloud service. Not an overall disadvantage but for some. All cloud services perform fairly well, but the disadvantage for me, really is the features, and lack of features they all give. They all perform the same built for the same purpose which is, storing documents and other files through the given cloud service. To name a few, Skydrive, Google Drive, Dropbox, Zoho. All of these listed companies want you to use their service. But for me, I'm all about integration and features. The service thats outshines the rest for me anyways is, Microsoft’s Skydrive cloud services. The advantage it has among all of the rest of the competitors is that its made by Microsoft. So that being an advantage, makes every other companies service a disadvantage. Microsoft also owns Office, and in the office desktop app, you can upload your documents right from the desktop app to the cloud. They have also just released Windows 8, and Windows Phone 8, allowing all Microsoft devices to be integrated with each other perfectly. Skydrive is literally built right into the OS on the phone and the Desktop. With Such great integration features, and full support within all competitor devices, I call Microsoft Skydrive for the win. The Image I have attached shows an Idea of how cloud computing works.
he Image shows different devices, syncing the same information from the cloud. The picture is a visual idea of what it is.
